BIG NEWS DELIVERY FROM OUR PROJECT MANAGER, HEATHER…
Some really big and sad news from me. I’m really sorry to tell you all that I will be leaving The Unit in a few weeks time as I have just accepted a new job in Edinburgh. My last day will be on the 20th March.
This was a really hard thing for me to decide - it has been a massive pleasure to work with Salisbury’s amazing young people over the two years I’ve been here, and to help you all with various projects - whether it was visiting BBC South, supporting our music stage at Hudson’s Field last year, organising our Oxfam art exhibition or working towards this amazing event in Salisbury Cathedral - I have enjoyed every minute of it.
The Unit will still be running on a Tuesday and Thursday between 3.30pm and 5.30pm with Keith after I leave, for the forseeable future and at least until after the Cathedral event has happened. Some fantastic new people - Abi Bruford (who has been involved in The Unit for a long time) and Guy Griffith (who runs the Parklife festivals, but is also on the committee of The Unit and is a really nice chap) will be taking over helping out with our amazing event at Salisbury Cathedral. Abi and Guy both have masses of knowledge about putting on music events so they’re perfect for the role and Cathedral meetings will continue as usual with the help of Ellie from the Arts Centre.
If you have any questions for me, do feel free to message me or pop in and say hello for the next few weeks.
It’s been fantastic - thanks to every single person who has popped in to find something out, engaged in one of our many projects, worked with me, followed us online, brought me biscuits, donated to or supported The Unit in some other way, volunteered their time or simply chatted to me. I can’t tell you how grateful myself and the rest of The Unit team are for the fantastic community support we have received.
Most of all, I’d like to thank The Unit’s wonderful Director Ruth Jones, who goes unnoticed behind the scenes but who really is the inspiration for everything The Unit does (and she does so much herself!), and of course Keith Gale, who is always around without fail to lend a helping hand and a cheery smile. The Unit’s committee are also a fantastic force who work endlessly to support the work we do (Tim, Ness, Virginia, Guy, Mike, Abi, Colin, Lucy, Caren, Jess).
I’ll be back to witness the greatest youth event ever seen in Salisbury Cathedral in the summer!
